A major advanced packaging and testing campus is helping transform the Peoria Innovation Core into a center for high-tech manufacturing.

North Peoria is becoming an increasingly important part of Arizona’s semiconductor industry, with Amkor Technology planning an investment of approximately $12 billion in its advanced packaging and testing campus.

Located within the Peoria Innovation Core, the development represents one of the most significant economic development projects in the city’s history.

A Major Expansion Announced in 2026

In September 2026, Amkor announced a second phase of its Arizona campus, substantially increasing the project’s planned investment.

The expansion is expected to add approximately 60,000 square meters of cleanroom capacity, bringing the combined campus total to approximately 93,000 square meters.

The company’s expanded campus encompasses approximately 170 acres following an additional land acquisition announced earlier in 2026.

Together, the two phases are expected to support more than 3,500 Arizona-based employees.

Why Advanced Packaging Matters

Semiconductor manufacturing involves more than producing silicon wafers.

Advanced packaging and testing help connect, protect, and integrate semiconductor components used in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, communications, and automotive technologies.

Amkor’s facility is intended to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities while supporting the broader Arizona technology ecosystem, including TSMC’s expanding operations in North Phoenix.

What’s the Construction Timeline?

Amkor previously announced construction activity associated with its first phase.

The company anticipates beginning construction of its second phase in late 2027, with completion expected by the end of 2029.

Those dates remain projected milestones rather than guaranteed completion dates.

What This Means for the Northwest Valley

Amkor’s investment could have implications far beyond the manufacturing campus itself.

Major industrial employers generate demand for skilled workers, technical education, suppliers, logistics services, infrastructure, and commercial real estate.

As North Peoria’s technology corridor develops, surrounding communities could see additional investment in supporting businesses, transportation improvements, and workforce development.

The project also reinforces Peoria’s role in Arizona’s expanding semiconductor supply chain.

NW Valley Pulse will continue following Amkor’s construction progress, infrastructure improvements, workforce opportunities, and related economic development across the northern Valley.
